Undiagnosed Physiological Problems may be the Answer.

It IS possible to Make Learning Easy!

You know your child and they are not flourishing in the existing educational system. You’ve had referrals to various specialists and your child has been given a label of one sort or another. Are you frustrated because your child has failed to benefit from mainstream teaching strategies and these specialist interventions? Then isn’t it time to explore another route to see if there is a neuro-physiological basis underlying their poor academic performance?

  • Sometimes it’s how they receive information through their sensory channels
  • Sometimes it’s how they process the sensory information in their brain
  • Sometimes it’s about under-developed primitive response patterns upon which more complex skills normally build.

Carmel Mullan

Carmel left her career as a teacher in mainstream education to pursue her passion to understand the human brain and how its development impacts on a child’s ability to learn.

What she discovered is that recent findings in the fields of neuro-developmental and auditory- sensory therapies have a whole lot to teach us about root causes of a wide range of ‘so called’ learning difficulties.

After immersing herself in the research she trained so she could assist some of the huge numbers of people with mis-diagnosis or non-diagnosis. Now she shares her expertise to guide others through the challenges presented.

Carmel Mullan BA Cert Ed Psych NDT INPP JST is now a leading expert in the diagnosis and treatment of learning disorders. Working from her practice in Ballymena, previously known as Ballymena Dyslexia Centre, Carmel makes a huge difference to the lives of children and adults.

She uses the proven methods developed by INPP as well as Johansen Sound Therapy which corrects  auditory processing disorder in children and adults.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a neurological disorder, not an indication of intelligence. Dyslexia sufferers respond positively to treatment.

Our treatments have a great record of success, even when other treatments have failed. It doesn’t have to remain like that. We can help.

Dyspraxia

Dyspraxia is sometimes called clumsy child syndrome, but it is nothing to do with the ability or intelligence of a child. It is a neuro-physiological condition that affects the motor planning skills of a child. Like many other learning disorders, its roots can be the result of retained primitive reflexes and a faulty vestibular system.

We address these root problems to help correct the condition.

Dyscalculia

If someone has difficulty with basic numeracy such as adding up, or recognising numbers. They may (or may not!) have been given a diagnosis of Dyscalculia. This affects around 18% of the population.

Anyone suffering from this condition, in the long term will struggle with everyday life skills like making purchases, budgeting and general financial matters.

It doesn’t have to remain this way! With the correct treatment this problem can be conquered.

Auditory Processing Disorder

Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) may result from the retention of reflexes that usually disappear in infancy or from a person suffering from ear infections at the crucial time (0 – 3 years) when the ears should be ‘fine tuning’ themselves to the language that they are exposed to. People may become ‘left eared’, causing a delay of milliseconds in sounds reaching the main auditory cortex. We can balance this out.

Reading And Writing Problems

People may go through their whole lives having difficulty with word recognition, poor reading ability and/or writing skills. Contrary to the commonly held belief that this demonstrates a lack of intelligence, the cause may be a neurophysiological condition.

We want to break down the damaging myths and stigma surrounding dyslexia and learning disorders. Reading and writing difficulties can be treated.

ADD/ADHD

Often called Hyperactivity Syndrome, ADD and ADHD are disorders that can cause above-normal levels of hyperactive and impulsive behaviours. People with ADHD may also have trouble focusing their attention on a single task or sitting still for long periods of time.

Too many people diagnosed with ADHD are prescribed medicine. Whilst this can add some control over the symptoms, it doesn’t correct the problem.

We can help reduce the effects of ADHD and ADD without the need for medication.

Asperger’s

Asperger’s Syndrome is a developmental disorder, on the Autistic spectrum, characterised by significant difficulties in social interaction etc. It can creative major anxiety within the person resulting in social isolation and major confidence issues. These anxieties and their consequences can be overcome with our approach.

Our treatments vary depending upon the severity of the condition. The results can be spectacular.
